W.Playa Vista·2+ weeks agoYesterday around 11:00am around the Chess Park, a man wearing all black with a red hair cap was walking along the opposite side of the street by Chess Park from me as I was walking my dog. Three separate times he sat down smoking while waiting for me to catch up on the other side. I was feeling followed so I texted my husband, who came down quite quickly after. The man then stood up after we turned a corner, followed us onto Runway Road and then turned the opposite way. I’m not entirely sure if he was following me before my husband showed up but i trusted my instinct and texted him. Specifically because he sat down, paused, and waited for me to catch up three different times while I was waiting for my dog to do his business. Numerous headstones and bronze markers have been deliberately broken and stolen, resulting in expensive damages and additional pain for grieving loved ones. To help stop this, the Board passed my motions offering a total of $40,000 in rewards to anyone that can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Grand Theft Auto, Theft, and Aggravated Assault are reporting year-to-date increases in North Hollywood: Grand Theft Auto +33.6% year-to-date; Theft +21.3% year-to-date including a +112% increase in reported Shoplifting Crimes; and Aggravated Assault increased +17.4%. 2 - North Hollywood LAPD Basic Car 15A39 includes the NoHo Arts District NORTH OF MAGNOLIA; NoHo Metro Red and Orange Line Stations; North Hollywood Park south to Riverside; and neighborhoods from Colfax to Clybourn > Oxnard to Magnolia. Overall Part I Crimes reported to North Hollywood LAPD for the area north of Magnolia increased +38 or +16% for 1/1 – 3/31/2024 year-to-date. Auto Crimes including Grand Theft Auto and Theft from Vehicle are up +43 or +45% year-to-date, overall Property Crimes are up +28 or +15%, while Violent Crimes are up +10 or +18% year-to-date. 3 - North Hollywood LAPD Basic Car 15A67 includes the NoHo Arts District SOUTH OF MAGNOLIA; Toluca Lake; West Toluca Lake; and neighborhoods from Hollywood Fwy to Burbank City Limits > Magnolia to Mulholland. Overall Part I Crimes reported to North Hollywood LAPD for the area south of Magnolia including Toluca Lake decreased <45> or <16%> for 1/1 – 3/31/2024 year-to-date. Auto Crimes including Grand Theft Auto and Theft from Vehicle are down <30> or <23%> year-to-date, overall Property Crimes are down <45> or <20%>, while Violent Crimes increased +0 or +0% year-to-date. 4 - North Hollywood LAPD Basic Car 15A33 includes LAUREL GROVE and neighborhoods from Coldwater to Colfax > Kittridge to Burbank. Overall Part I Crimes reported to North Hollywood LAPD for Laurel Grove increased +57 or +40% for 1/1 – 3/31/2024 year-to-date. Auto Crimes including Grand Theft Auto and Theft from Vehicle are up +34 or +55% year-to-date, overall Property Crimes are up +50 or +41% year-to-date including a +28 increase in the # of Thefts including an increase in reported Shoplifting Crimes, while Violent Crimes are up +7 or +35% year-to-date. 5 - Note that Single and Multi-Family Residential Burglary decreased <14> (or <10.1%>) YTD in North Hollywood; Commercial (Business) Burglary decreased <16> (or <13.3%>) YTD. 6 - Also note that Theft (Personal / Other) increased +77 (or +21.3%) year-to-date in North Hollywood, which includes a +101 (or +112%) increase in reported Shoplifting Thefts year-to-date. This increase may be in part due to changes in corporate policies regarding reporting Shoplifting Thefts to North Hollywood LAPD with thefts underreported during the pandemic in 2020 through 2022. Also, additional stores opened at one of these retail locations in spring, 2023. For example, -3- of the Top -5- retail locations reported -375- Shoplifting Thefts during the past 12-months in North Hollywood.
