Undubs have been one of the bigger things the past few years on the PS2. There have been a smattering of translations (largely for licensed properties like DBZ or Jo-Jo's), but the PS1 has had more of an actual translation boom lately.

Related, are there romhacks/translations/other hacks for PS2 games? And are they easy to apply?

here's some good PS2 translations:

Tales of Destiny DC, Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, Front Mission 5, Jojos Phantom Blood, Dragon Quest 5 (though you miss out on Deborah I guess), Super Robot Wars Original Generations (remake/combine of OG1/2 on GBA), Berserk, Shadow Tower Abyss, DOG OF BAY

unfortunately the game is very bad and the translation isn't good either, fixed width font, no 'character voice' to speak of, battle commands aren't translated at all etc

Waiting on archive.org downloads is for suckers. They also offer a torrent of every file on the site that is often loaded with seeders (especially for popular run gd like ROMs) and will max out your bandwidth easily

I’m having an interesting problem with the RetroTink 4K.

I’m trying to run my NES (RGB SCART modded) and it worked fine with the Framemeister, but with the Tink everything is in shades of red, not unlike a Virtual Boy. I tried messing with the connection to the NES itself and trying different cartridges, and that didn’t fix it. I haven’t tried pulling apart the entertainment center and messing with other connections down the chain (the NES goes via SCART to a SCART extension cable to a SCART switch which goes to the Tink). Other consoles such as the Jaguar, SNES, Saturn, and Genesis work fine.

Also my N64 (also over SCART) isn’t responding (power light comes on, no video display), nor is my Dreamcast, also SCART via Toro box (Toro power light comes on when I power up the Dreamcast but I have no video output).

So since installing OPL on my ps2 a few weeks ago I legally acquired pretty much every game worth having, got a 4TB hard drive and just yesterday set it all up, and then I realized 2 things:

1. If you install the default art for over 1000 games, it makes the opl menu INCREDIBLY slow
2. I actually missed a bunch of games A-C but I just finished getting those so I should be fully set up by the end of today (just in time for the weekend!)

I also pre-ordered a memcard pro 2. I already have the older version for my PS1 and I love it (especially now that the PSIO actually works with it).

Big sony hours right now.

I have a 2TB drive with 750+ games with art, and it's not terribly slow. I'm sure it would be faster without art, but I don't have a problem scrolling to find the game I want to play. However I'm not using the exFAT support that OPL has now. Maybe that's slower (assuming you're using it)?

Well had big time failure with replacing the laser mechanism on my fat PS3.

Got the new laser mechanism installed, went to put a disc into the drive, wouldn't pull in the disc, could hear grinding noise.

Pulled the drive apart, noticed one part of the mechanism that I guess pulls in when a disc hits it was already at the the position where there was a disc in the drive. Pulled apart the mechanism, got the part back into the front of the drive, then as an idiot, flicked the part of the mechanism that grabs the disc, a part goes flying off never to be seen again and cogs fall out.

gently caress Retrogames: Most of them were opened just to sniff the sh*t out of them (45)

Thankfully a mate has a broken fat PS3 so hopefully I can swap the mechanisms around while keeping my drive electronics so I don't have the issue of the drive being registered with the rest of the hardware and give myself a big kick up the arse.

Ah well, let's see how much I can break or lose tomorrow when I try to do some maintenance to some Apple II and PC joysticks

If it makes you feel better.....I took my slim PS3 apart a couple of weekends ago for cleaning and to replace the thermal paste and ended up breaking the ribbon clip on the board for my disc drive....rendering it unusable. Nothing like wrecking a system attempting to general maintenance. Retrogames: Most of them were opened just to sniff the sh*t out of them (46)

Yeah subfolders were a no go. I got it decently working though, I had opl manager only download cover and disc art for all the games and told it to ignore titles, backgrounds, and screenshots. Looks like most of the ones they have up there aren't well optimized and that's what slows things down (giant pngs and whatnot). It's a little annoying that I can't have that stuff but at least it's all working now!

I also found this collection of opl art files that I haven't taken a look at for real yet, but looks like maybe the images are better optimized. I'll give it a shot next time I pull the HDD back out.

I christened it with a game of Crazy Frog Arcade Racer as is tradition in my country.

Next thing I'm planning on doing for it is swap the stock fan with a noctua one.

I downloaded this art pack to find it has all art files in individual folders for all games. OPL Manager does not recognize art in folders, and I can't seem to find a way to have the manager install art locally instead of from their servers, without doing each individual piece of art one at a time.

Right, but all of my cables are euroscart and I’m using a euroscart adapter, and they all worked fine.

This is the adapter I used:

https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/european-scart-to-framemeister-xrgb-mini-passive-converter-for-sale

Likewise, some of my euroscart cables are working with the Tink, but others aren’t, despite working with the Framemeister.

What’s especially annoying is that the Dreamcast was working fine and then I think I bumped something and now the Toro box’s power light comes on but I get no signal on the TV, so I’m praying I didn’t damage the Toro box somehow.

Tomorrow I’m going to be essentially auditing the entire setup and relabeling all the cables so I know what is going where and can make sure there’s no loose connections. I’m also going to likely reconnect the Framemeister just to rule out that it’s not the Tink loving up somehow.

Speaking of the Tink, what’s the best way to do VGA out from a Dreamcast Toro box to the Tink? More specifically, how do I capture audio? The Toro box has stereo out (red/white) but the Tink has 3.5mm audio in I believe.

Are there any okay games out there that cover the sagas before Z?

Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans for DS is a Chrono Trigger-ish RPG that might as well be pre-Z - it starts at the world tournament with Piccolo Jr. and ends with the Vegeta/Nappa fight, with a bunch of original content that mostly ties into pre-Z stuff because they really needed to pad out that very small and specific portion of the timeline in order to make a whole game out of it.

If all you're getting is red, you're almost certainly using a JP21 cable. Red is the only commonality shared between both standards:

Retrogames: Most of them were opened just to sniff the sh*t out of them (96)

If you're absolutely 100% positive your cable is in fact a true SCART cable, then your NESRGB is probably wired to output JP21 in some way. What kind of port does your NESRGB use?
